In 2023, Highmark Power was proud to deliver a custom-designed solar and battery backup system for homeowners Peter and Jan, tailored to provide whole home energy resilience with room for future expansion.

We were awarded this design-build project to create a system that would allow the couple to maintain complete energy independence during grid outages—an increasingly important feature in Nova Scotia’s storm-prone climate.

System Details:

  • 10.8 kW solar PV system

  • 27 kWh battery storage system

  • Whole-home backup functionality

  • Designed for future expansion (additional battery and solar capacity)

Peter specifically requested that the system be built with long-term flexibility in mind, allowing additional battery capacity and solar generation to be added as their needs evolve.

Just weeks after commissioning, their system was put to the test during a major hurricane that caused prolonged power outages across the region. Thanks to their new energy system, Peter and Jan remained fully powered and uninterrupted, with no impact on their day-to-day life.

This project is a perfect example of how solar + storage solutions can provide peace of mind, energy savings, and long-term resilience for homeowners in Atlantic Canada.
